The Lyric Opera House closes its doors promptly at curtain time, and latecomers wait for a break or take an available section. The house opened on November 4, 1929, as the Civic Opera House and seats 3,563.

Dress, kids and bags

Lyric has no formal dress code. Babies in arms and lap-sitting aren't allowed, and under-17s must be with an adult; Lyric notes that many operas contain adult themes. Large bags, backpacks and briefcases must be checked, at $2 per item. Translations are projected above the stage.
